The Morphology of Desire

Happy V-day, in the spirit of Valentine’s day I thought I’d share with you the video The Morphology of Desire, by artist Robert Arnold, which was included in the exhibition Pretty Sweet: The Sentimental Image in Contemporary Art, that took place at the DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park in 2005.
This continuous loop video of appropriated illustrations from dime-store romance novels from the 1960s and 70’s, is amusingly witty. Arnold morphs together kitschy couples illustrating passionate yearning which is then left unrealized through suspended embraces and suggestive glances.
