Today’s Muse: Madame X

Today’s Muse is John Singer Sargent’s infamous painting of Madame X. This painting depicting Madame Pierre Gautreau donning the original LBD (initially painted with only one diamond encrusted strap upon her shoulder), caused scandal and shock at the 1884 Paris Salon. Her flushed ears were seen as sexually suggestive against her aristocratic pallor, offensively revealing the intimate secrets of high society.
